Join us Wednesday, July 25 for a program presented by Stuart Marcus on Moths of Trinity River – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly – 6:30 p.m., talk starts at 7:00 p.m., at the Red Cross Building at 2700 Southwest Freeway, easy access and free parking!

Stuart Marcus

Stuart Marcus is the first and current Refuge Manager of the 30,000 acre Trinity River National Wildlife located in Liberty, TX. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1977 with a degree in Wildlife Ecology.

Stuart worked as a seasonal forester with the U. S. Forest Service in 1977 and 1978 at Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina.  He started his career with the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1979 as a Biological Technician at the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge located in north Florida.  He went on to work as an Assistant Refuge Manager at three other refuges, throughout different parts of Florida.  He was promoted to Refuge Manager of the Trinity River Refuge in June, 1994.  His long-time interest in birds and butterflies now includes moths.

 

Join us for Moth Night on the Prairie

Saturday, July 28, 2018

8:00 p.m. Doors open – visitors are encouraged to walk and view the prairie in the relative coolness and breeze just before sunset
9:00 p.m. Moth and night insect viewing begins
Moth and insect enthusiasts Katy Emde and John Schneider will set up black (UV) lights and white screen to attract moths and other night insects. We will view and ID those that come.

Light snacks will be provided in the house.
Visitors are welcome to drop by and leave at any time, but please REGISTER HERE so we will have a head count for the food.

Please do not park in front of our neighbors’ houses.
If possible, please bring a signed liability release with you (click here)
If you wish to walk on the prairie, closed-toe shoes (no sandals) and long pants are required; they are not required in the house and yard area.

The Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) is a non-profit land trust dedicated to the conservation, restoration, and appreciation of native prairies, savannas, and other grasslands in Texas.
