The Memorial Park Prairie remnant is on either side of the railroad tracks both north and south of Memorial Dr. Two large stands of Liatris aspera, not often found these days in greater Houston, are on the southwest quadrant. Starting from the sidewalk on the south side of Memorial Drive and immediately west of the railroad tracks, walk up the short steep incline, and you will be near the first electric powerline pole. One stand is between the 3rd and 4th power pole and one stand before the fifth power pole. Parts are very wet due to recent rains – wear your rubber boots. There are blue waterleafs growing in those wet parts.
Until summer time ends, HNPAT & NPSOT-H are joining to lead tours to Memorial Park Prairie before every Native Plant Society Meeting starting at the pedestrian bridge parking lot (map – http://goo.gl/maps/IjCbt ) at 6:00 p.m on third Thursdays of the month. Next tour, October 16, 2014.
