I attended a monthly HNPAT meeting tonight for the first time, and was able to enjoy a prairie walk and talk. It was interesting to hear what has been done to date, by many hard working members and volunteers. There are plans to do more. It is easy to see why they give so freely of themselves to preserve and grow this prairie.
The Lawther-Deer Park Prairie Preserve is a living, breathing place of beauty. My first up close view of the prairie was at sunrise a few weeks ago. It was amazing to watch how it lit up, as the sun cast its light over the landscape. It is a nature photographer’s dream place to shoot.
As we brought the walk to a close, I cast about for something to capture with my camera. Light levels were pretty low, and everything was backlit against the setting sun. I was looking for something simple. I needed it to represent a quiet close of the day on the prairie, and to showcase just a small portion of it.
