Volunteers Needed for Workdays at Deer Park Prairie in July!

NPAT is holding three workdays at the Lawther – Deer Park Prairie Preserve! There are plenty of volunteer opportunities on Saturdays, July 18 & 26, and Monday, July 21 for anyone interested in being involved with this ‘platinum’ prairie, a landmark in Texas land conservation. The main tasks for all workdays are invasive and non-native plant species removal and other maintenance tasks around the prairie. We also have volunteer options inside the air-conditioned Deer Park Prairie Headquarters as well. Food will be provided for volunteers. Volunteers will be allowed to collect limited amount of selected seeds for personal use. Mark your calendar for these opportunities to help promote the health of this one-of-a-kind prairie and to participate in history in the making!

We really need your volunteer hours to satisfy our share of matching funds for a Texas Park and Wildlife Department grant, so we would very much appreciate it if everyone, especially Texas Master Naturalists, would allow NPAT to count your volunteer hours instead of reporting this as TMN or other organizational volunteer hours.

Someone from NPAT will be at Deer Park Prairie during the hours listed below, so please come when you can and stay as long as you are able. If you know ahead of time, please RSVP to HNPAT@TexasPrairie.org to help us plan.  If you decide at the last minute, please just come.

This is to prevent any inconvenience to our neighbors by taking their parking spots. Please park at the church and walk down the street and check in at the headquarters when you arrive.

Bring garden gloves and whatever gardening tools that you have (loppers, pruners, chain saw, etc., marked with your name). Some tools will be available on site. Wear closed toe shoes and long pants. Also good to have: hat, sun screen, bug spray, and long sleeved shirt
